The Lolium Remotum Annual Plant

The vlasdolik (Lolium remotum) is an annual, to 60 cm tall grass becoming. The Vlasdolik takes its name from its presence on the flax and serra delle-fields.

The yellow-green grass has thin, weak, more or less upright stems, the top rough. The leaf sheaths are smooth, the blades 2-3 mm wide, flat, smooth but sometimes raw. The 7-10 mm long spikelets are 4-8-flowered, bright green, stand up close together, further explained below. It is shorter than the kelkkafje-desk, but twice as long as there standing next to husk. The husk usually have no needles.

Related darnel (Lolium temulentum) has longer spikelets (up to 25 mm) and 15-30 cm long kelkkafjes. The seeds are often infected by the rust fungus and is highly toxic, it contains the poison temulin. Some doliksoorten, say, English ryegrass (Lolium perenne) and Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum) pastures are often sown.

The species has disappeared from the Netherlands, Flanders and Brussels Region.
