The “Many Weed”

Many weed (Sanicula europaea) is a species of plant that flowers family (Apiaceae or Umbelliferae). It is a hairless plant 20-60 cm high. The flowers form rosettes, which cover the ground in woods, especially beech. In the Netherlands the species rare or very rare.


The leaves are dark green and shiny. Steal the leaves are red. From the rootstock rises a loose rosette of leaves that are deeply incised with wedge-shaped lobes.


The flowers are greenish white with a pink haze. They are very small and form a separate screen. There are involucre of 3-5 mm long. Omwindseltjes also are available. At the edge of a screen are male flowers, sit in the middle hybrid flowers. Heel Herb blossoms from May to August.


The fruits are ovoid, about 3 mm long, with hooked spines.
