Hypericum (Hypericum) is a genus of the family of Klousioeidon (Clusiaceae), which includes about 150 species, grass, bushes or brushwood. Main species is Hypericum perforatum (Hypericum perforatum, commonly known as balm, St. John's Wort or spatula) and Hypericum perfoliatum (Hypericum bright, commonly leichinochorto or starida).

The St. John's Wort is an evergreen plant with a height of about one meter and flowers with bright yellow, which occur around mid-June. It is an endemic plant in almost the entire European continent.

Uses
St. John's Wort or Hypericum has been the subject of medicine since ancient times. The ancient Greeks used it as a diuretic, healing, haemostatic and emminagogo.

Today in the U.S. and many other countries in the form of pills used to treat mild and moderate depression (so called "alternative to Prozac"). Also used as an anticonvulsant for the treatment of insomnia.

Outdoor use:
Used in tincture form, having extracted the fresh plant oil in glass jars sealed well, staying in the sun for 40 days or so, as a healing wounds, burns, irritations and first grade.

Indoor use:
* As tea is usually a teaspoon of grated dried leaves and flowers in a cup of hot water, to cover them and leave, covered for 10-15 minutes to pass all components of the plant in water, from one to three times a day further advice and guidance of doctors, pharmacists and other experts.
* In capsules or tablets: On advice of doctors or pharmacists.
* In an alcoholic tincture: Following the advice of a doctor or pharmacist.
