Transylvanian Autumn Crocus
The Transylvanian autumn crocus (Crocus banaticus) is a species of the genus Crocus (Crocus).

Features
The Transylvanian autumn crocus is a perennial tuber geophytes, height of 6-12 centimeters reached. The leaves develop only after flowering. They are 5-7 (rarely to 10) mm wide, bald and have a faint stripes. The Perigonzipfel are different. The inner ones are upright, pointed, and measure 23-30 × 12-13 mm, the outer ones are spread out, blunt or rounded, pale lilac to purple with darker veins and measure 37-50 × 13-25 mm. The pen is six or mehrästig and purple or white. Banaticus Crocus Crocus is the only way out, when the dust bag inside (front open).

The flowering period extends from September to October.

Occurrence
The Transylvanian autumn crocus occurs in central and western Romania, northern Serbia, and in the Ukrainian Carpathians. The species grows on fresh meadows, deciduous forests and shrubs at altitudes 130-700 meters. In northern Germany, it is wild, and possibly naturalized.

Use
The Transylvanian autumn crocus is dispersed as an ornamental plant for lawns, flower gardens and rock groups used. The species is at least since 1594 in culture. There are several varieties, the flower color varies from purple to pale lilablau.
