About the Fine Gold Screen Plant

Fine gold screen (Bupleurum tenuissimum) is an annual plant belonging to the family floral display (ie Apiaceae Umbelliferae). The salt tolerant plant is native to the coastal areas of Eurasia, it is a plant of high salt marshes and sea dikes. The species is on the Dutch Red List of plants as a very rare and greatly reduced.


The plant is 10-60 centimeters high and has branched, thin, tough, bare stems. The blue-green, smooth-edged leaves his line to narrow-lanceolate, three ribs and a spiky top. Only the lower leaves have a short handle, the others are seated.


Fine gold screen blooms from June to September with yellow to orange, almost sitting flowers, much shorter than the three to five elongated and drienervige omwindselbladen. Inflorescence a raceme or spike screen with two or three rays.


The 2 mm wide, almost oval and weakly ribbed fruit is a two-part split fruit, which is almost entirely occupied with small warts. The seeds remain but a short time are viable.
